About Us

West Coast Furniture Bank was originally formed by a small group of evangelical Christians attending South Beach Baptist Church in Saltcoats. We seek to help people in need with basic necessities for their homes. Our main work involves sourcing usable items that people are replacing, storing them, and then delivering them free of charge to others who cannot afford to purchase such items.

A lot of our day-to-day work is done by unpaid volunteers, to whom we are greatly indebted, and we also receive a lot of practical assistance from North, East and South Ayrshire Councils, local Criminal Justice Services and others. Thank you all!
What do we do?
We operate mainly in Ayrshire as most of our contacts and partners are located there, but will potentially travel further afield to collect furniture (eg: Glasgow).

We mostly aim to provide

  • Lounge: Suites, Armchairs, Coffee Tables
  • Bedroom: Single and Double Beds and Mattresses, Wardrobes, Drawer Units, Bedding
  • Kitchen: Fridges, Freezers, Washing Machines
  • General: Carpets, Curtains
  • Clothing: Infant and Baby Clothes
Our Partners
We started out using lock-up garages in which to store items, but now have access to a large unit in Stevenston which is kindly provided to us for nothing. We partner with organisations such as
  • Local Authorities
  • Criminal Justice Services
  • Social Services
  • Housing Associations
  • Other Charities
...who inform us of people in need of furniture and assist with a lot of the transport and logistics. Our "clients" come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Many have been homeless until recently and have just been provided with a home, but cannot afford to furnish it. Some are victims of circumstance (eg: a house fire), but others are simply in reduced circumstances and in need of a helping hand.
Our Finances
We make no charge whatever for the items we provide to people and deliver and install them for nothing. We are always grateful to friends and contacts who give us items that are serviceable but which they no longer require. Our outgoings are mainly fuel for the vehicles we use and any donations or contributions that people offer are used to offset that expenditure.
